▸ Short hook ▸ One idea per paragraph ▸ Bold a key phrase, not a sentence ▸ End with a specific question
When a list beats a paragraph
Lists work when the items are parallel — steps, mistakes, tools, lessons — and each fits on one or two lines. If the items need explanation, write short paragraphs and bold the first few words of each instead. Three to seven items is the sweet spot; more than that and people skim past the middle.
Symbol choice sets the tone. • and ▪ are neutral, ▸ and → feel like steps, ✓ reads as “done” or “do this”, and numbers promise an order. Emoji bullets (✅ 🔹) add colour but also noise; in B2B posts one emoji style at most. To style a whole draft at once, use the formatter: select lines and press a list button.
Questions people ask
How do I add bullet points on LinkedIn?
LinkedIn posts have no list button. Type or paste a symbol like • or ▸ at the start of each line. The tool above does it for all lines at once: pick a symbol, paste your lines, copy the result.
How do I type a bullet point (•) on my keyboard?
On a Mac press Option + 8. On Windows hold Alt and type 0149 on the number pad. On iPhone and Android, hold the hyphen or asterisk key on the symbol keyboard. Or copy one from this page.
Can I use bullet points in my LinkedIn About section and experience?
Yes. The About section and job descriptions also accept Unicode symbols, and lists there make achievements much easier to scan for recruiters.
Which bullet symbol works on every device?
• (U+2022), ▪, ▸, → and ✓ render on all current phones and computers. Emoji bullets like ✅ work too but add colour — use them sparingly in professional posts.
