When bold actually helps a LinkedIn post
People scan posts on phones in about the time it takes to scroll one screen. Bold works as a signpost for that scan: it should mark the one phrase you would want someone to remember if they read nothing else.
- Do bold a short label that starts a list item: “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝘅: move the link to the comments.”
- Do bold a number or result the whole post hangs on.
- Don’t bold your whole hook. Screen readers spell it out and it pushes your first line past the fold because each letter costs two characters.
- Don’t bold names, job titles or skills you want to be found for — LinkedIn search matches plain letters.
Want to style words inside a full draft instead of one line at a time? Use the post formatter: select words and press B, and the live preview shows how the post looks in the feed.
Italic, underline and the rest
Italic suits a quote or an aside. Underline uses a combining character after each letter, which some Android keyboards render slightly misaligned. For script, gothic, small caps and ten more styles, see the LinkedIn font generator.
Questions people ask
How do I make text bold on LinkedIn?
Type or paste your words above, press Copy next to “Bold (sans)”, and paste the result into your LinkedIn post, comment, headline or About section. LinkedIn has no native bold button for posts, so this Unicode method is how everyone does it.
Can I bold text in a LinkedIn comment or headline?
Yes. Because the output is Unicode characters rather than formatting, it works anywhere LinkedIn accepts text: posts, comments, messages, your headline, About section and experience descriptions. Recruiters searching for a keyword will not match a bolded word, so keep job titles and skills plain.
Which bold style looks most natural?
“Bold (sans)” is closest to the system fonts LinkedIn uses, so it blends in. Serif bold stands out more and looks like a book title. Bold italic is good for a single quoted line.
Why do bold letters count as two characters?
Styled letters are stored outside Unicode’s Basic Multilingual Plane, so each takes two UTF-16 code units. LinkedIn counts code units, so a fully bolded 1,500-character post would hit the 3,000 limit.
Is bold text bad for accessibility?
It can be. Screen readers may read each styled letter by its Unicode name or skip it. Bold a few words for emphasis, never a whole paragraph, and never your call to action alone.
